Copper smelting furnace refractory bricks — Firebrics Mexico project
Non-Ferrous Industry

Refractory Solutions for Non-Ferrous Metals

Non-ferrous metal smelting — aluminum, copper, zinc, lead, nickel, and precious metals — subjects refractory linings to a unique combination of challenges: low-viscosity molten metals that penetrate microscopic pores in brickwork, highly reactive slag chemistries, and complex vapor-phase attack from sulfides and halides. Each metal imposes its own specific set of refractory requirements.

Firebrics manufactures high-alumina bricks with controlled porosity for aluminum holding and melting furnaces, magnesia-zirconia bricks for copper converter slag lines, and dense castables for zinc retorts and lead blast furnaces. Our Mexico smelting project demonstrates our capability to supply high-volume international orders with consistent quality and short lead times.

Key Application Zones

Aluminum Smelters & Holders

Low-wetting, low-porosity high-alumina or silicon carbide bricks resist aluminum metal infiltration and fluoride vapor attack in electrolytic and secondary aluminum furnaces.

Copper Converters & Anode Furnaces

The Peirce-Smith converter and anode furnace tuyere zone and slag line demand magnesia-based bricks with exceptional resistance to copper-rich mattes and fayalite slags.

Zinc Retorts & Condensers

Silicon carbide and dense alumina bricks for zinc retort distillation at 1000–1100°C — superior resistance to zinc vapor infiltration and reducing atmosphere degradation.

Lead Blast & Reverb Furnaces

Lead reverberatory furnaces and blast furnace hearths — high-density magnesia-chrome or direct-bonded magnesia bricks resist galena-rich mattes and lead oxide-bearing slags.

Recommended Products

Al₂O₃ ≥ 70%

High Alumina Bricks

Low-porosity (≤18%) high alumina bricks for aluminum melting furnace walls and floors — minimal wetting angle with molten aluminum, long campaign life in secondary smelting.
